The Finnish government promises 15 billion in support packages

A comprehensive financial support package of 15 billion euros was presented today by the Finnish national government.

According to the government, they are serious about supporting the companies and avoiding mass unemployment.

- We have an exceptional and serious situation in which we will not primarily think about how indebted the state will be. The most important thing is that we help citizens and businesses now, says Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

The government presented a wide range of measures, including a supplementary budget of 400 million euro, which consists of direct business support and health care support.

Furthermore, the state will undertake to eliminate the excess risk of unemployment and layoffs while increasing support for unemployment funds.

Entrepreneurs will also be entitled to unemployment benefits and the time for notification of cooperation negotiations will be reduced to five days.

The Government will introduce a temporary reduction of pension contributions by 2.6% from June 1 to the end of the year.

Finnvera's opportunities for corporate loans are expanded to more than 10 billion euro.

The Prime Minister also called on the municipalities to avoid layoffs during the current situation.

Business Minister Mika Lintilä clarified that continuous work will be required to support the economy.

- We are already preparing the next support package, he concluded.
